Transfiguration

The last and greatest of the manifestations of Jesus' glory was still not enough for Peter to remember, as he soon tried to rebuke his Lord for saying he would go the way of the cross, and soon after that denied him three times. But so also we ourselves so  easily forget what we hear and confess in this place, for we are fickle, even as was all of Israel. Seeing the face of Moses, type of Christ, and seeing the parting of the Red Sea. Yet they forgot, and turned. But the Lord is gracious and will not himself turn away from us. So when the disciples were sore afraid at the words from the cloud, Jesus came and said be not afraid. And they saw no one but Jesus only. Peter, make not  three  tents, for there is only one Christ. And Moses wrote of him, and the prophets spoke of him. Learn to embrace him and at last to gain confidence in life that in him alone is safety and salvation. Sermon for the Transfiguration.
