Thomas believes

Thomas was a thorough-going rationalist, which is why he declared that he would not believe without inspection. The dead do not rise; that is what the rationalist must conclude upon examination of all his evidence, until this day when new evidence is presented. Jesus stands before him, alive, and now he must admit that he was wrong, for Christ is risen. And this means that the dead do rise, in Christ, and his peace that he announced to his disciples at his resurrection is an eternal peace with cannot be taken away.
