On the resurrection of the body

For my midweek sermon I used data from a recent article I read on 'Evangelical Gnosticism' that shows how there is a substantial number of young evangelicals who believe that when a person dies he is freed from the prison of his body, and that the resurrection of the dead is nothing more. This is a recurrence of the ancient Gnosticism that falsely held the same opinion and was condemned by Christendom and the New Testament itself. In St. John 5, Jesus speaks of resurrection, but he clearly does so in a bodily way: they shall "come forth" from  their graves. And of course we must believe this, just as we believe that Jesus' own resurrection was bodily. Indeed we receive his Body in the supper, for he did not say it was his Spirit. The forgiveness of sins leads to the glorification of the body and its perfection at the last day, not to its annihilation. Sermon for Easter III midweek.
