Eckardtesian Thought: I think, therefore I write . . .
Jesus endures the temptation against the devil to defeat him for us, so that we may gain confidence that our foe has been conquered. The temptation of bread is great for us, for it has to do with all the wants and needs of this life which are constantly before us; and the temptation of taking matters into our own hands is also great, the temptation, that is, to force the angels' hands somehow. And behind both of these is the devil's temptation to worship him rather than God. So let us, who see that Jesus has refused all of these, and even gone the whole way of the cross without flinching, now learn anew to worship and serve God. For Jesus refused bread in the wilderness in order that he might himself become our Bread of life, in the blessed Sacrament. Sermon for Lent I. The video is here.
