Holy Monday: Lazarus and Jesus

The Gospel of St. John is unique in documenting the raising of Lazarus, and therefore in giving us the reason for the great crowd coming out to see Jesus when he came to Jerusalem. It was not only to see Jesus, but also because of the report that he had raised Lazarus. And therefore we can make a connection between Jesus' Passion and Lazarus' life, which is very like our own: he was Jesus' friend and Jesus loved him. So Jesus raised him and dined with him; and he has raised us to newness of life and he dines with us, and promises life and salvation eternally. Sermon for Holy Monday is here.
