Golgotha

The called the place of crucifixion Golgotha, which means the place of the skull. So is fulfilled the promise of old, as the Seed of the woman, our virgin-born Christ, here crushes the head of the serpent, who is the devil, but must die in doing so, for the heel which crushed it was wounded and the wound was mortal. So by his death our Lord undoes death, and hell, and the devil, and all evil. Sermon for Wednesday Vespers.
